After Struggling 7 Years, Man Finally Decides to Get a Prosthetic Ear to Restore His Confidence and Happiness. Hurray!
Ear trauma is not uncommon. Our anaplastologists publish on the subject- Silicone auricular prosthesis. We have a long experience replacing all parts of the ear. Surgical or Prosthetic Ear Reconstruction. People want their ears to look normal no matter how much of the ear is missing.
In this case our client initially contacted us over 7 years ago to discuss ways to restore the missing part of the rim of his left ear. After struggling with surgical versus prosthetic options to repair his ear he finally decided to make the trip from the lower peninsula of Michigan to the Madison, Wisconsin location of our anaplastology network.
He certainly had the option to be treated by Todd Kubon, MS, CCA, an excellent anaplastologist near Chicago, Illinois. This would have been closer to his home in Michigan, but since he had a history of correspondence with Greg Gion in Madison going back to 2017 he preferred this time to come up for just 3 days and have the prosthesis completed. In the future we will also be available in Wisconsin, Illinois, Tennessee, or several other cities from coast to coast.
We often document our steps to use as reference, but also for patient education. We want our clients to be involved in the process of making their unique prosthesis. He could see all the steps from start to finish and that way he is more comfortable as are we that everything about the process is transparent. He now understands the focus and precision that we invest in our work to get him the most accurate and convincing result. Afterall, he is investing time and money so we want him to feel he is getting the very best this highly specialized practice demands. How Does He Use His Prosthetic Ear? Here is a Discussion…
So, you might ask, “How does he put his prosthetic ear on? “How does it stay on? There are many questions that go along with wearing an ear prosthesis and we take plenty? of time to go over all the details. Wearing a prosthetic ear or a partial ear prosthesis is not terribly complicatred but it does take a little time and patience at first. Our first instruction goes something like this:
- Ok, first of all just relax and practice positioning your new ear prosthesis. It takes time but you will become an expert!
- Let’s try it without any adhesive at first, just to get familiar with placement.
- The ear prosthesis might slip into place easier if we push the top part in first, then the bottom.
- Lets practice the other way too. Put the bottom part of the prosthetic onto your ear first, then the top.
- Great, so now that we determined the best approach let’s try adding a little adhesive to the ear prosthetic.
Here is what we say..
We designed your prosthetic ear replacement to pop into place with no glue. It will actually, stay put with no adhesive. However, for all day safe secure attachment through business, golfing, or whatevr, you will feel more secure using the special adhesives we provide you with. With proper use and care your duarble silicone prosthetic ear will last years. We also know from experience how prosthetics silicone colorants age with time and exposure so ear prosthesis color changes. That is why we put plenty of those vibrant reddish and pink tones deep into the prosthetic ear silicone so it will not fade.
Your ear prosthesis will look lifelike and natural in more situations for years. And when you want to have it refurbished or want a replacement or duplicate ear prosthesis to have as a spare one of our anaplastologists will always be available with your original mold. This way you are assured even more cost effective prosthetic ear care for a lifetime, even if you move to another state.
So here is his prosthetic ear in place the day he headed back to Michigan!
