Bringing Hope to Hundreds with Anaplastology
For us, anaplastology represents a diverse and deep investment in materials, applications, experimentation, and in expanding the modes of delivery in our profession to reach more patients seeking high quality prostheses. Here we see prostheses or treatment sessions for patients in Louisiana, Illinois, and New York.

Prosthetic Fingers prepared to send to a US Veteran
The duplicated finger prostheses are ready for delivery to one of our Veterans Administration Medical Center partners, this one in Louisiana. Matching all the different colors in human skin is challenging for the anaplastologist. But after years of looking at photos of our custom silicone color swatches next to the patient’s hand we get pretty good at making prosthetic fingers without actually seeing our patients.
We’ve been fortunate and priviledged to work with VAMC certified prosthetists across the country to give their veterans prosthetics that fit and match successfully. We want to keep the prosthetics accuracy and lifelike quality as high as possible to maintain this great relationship with The Veterans Administration Medical Centers.
Advanced Prosthetic Finger Socket Fitting
A patient from Illinois is testing a new finger prosthesis design based on a concept published in a recent Fabrication Sciences Society booklet , part of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists. While prosthetic fingers have traditionally been made from silicone elastomer materials, the focus is on balancing durability, aesthetics, and functionality.
Patients seeking improved joint function may be candidates for devices like the Naked Prosthetics PIP Driver, assessed by our certified prosthetist based on the level of amputation. If such devices aren’t suitable, we focus on enhancing functionality in our passive silicone finger prostheses.
Patients seeking improved joint function may be evaluated for devices like the Naked Prosthetics PIP Driver, depending on their level of amputation. Our team includes a certified prosthetist experienced with NP devices, but if candidates are not suitable, we focus on incorporating function into our passive silicone finger prostheses.
Eye Prosthetics Care
The eye prosthesis, or what we refer to as an orbital or oculofacial prosthesis, is being specially packaged for safe cross-country delivery. The eyelashes and delicate margins of the orbital prosthesis are susceptible to damage if the prosthesis tumbles around or is too tightly packed during shipping. So, we developed a novel way to secure the prosthesis in a special box to ensure our client in New York receives it in perfect condition. He has been a long term client we see in conjunction with Strauss Eye Prosthetics in Rochester, NY.
Ear Prosthetics
Quality and Durability
Finally, a freshly demolded ear prosthesis demonstrates deep long-lasting intrinsic coloration. It also has thin margins prepared with the tear resistant silicone elastomer. The extra durability means our long-standing patient from a remote location in rural New York might go another 6 years before contacting us for a replacement.
Exploring and Expanding Anaplastology Relationships Almost 40 Years.
It just so happens this prosthetic ear like the orbital prosthesis in the box is being furnished to a client who came to the Strauss office in Rochester, New York. This represents a great relationship we have had with the Strauss family that began way back in 1988! We began forging great anaplastology-ocularistry partnerships going back to 1985 in Dallas. Medical Art Prosthetics is a pioneer in forging anaplastology and ocularistry teams in San Jose, California, Des Plaines, Illinois and Madison, Wisconsin as well. Honestly, this allows the provision of our services to help sustain and grow our practice network, but in the end it helps create a warm synergistic relationship that ultimately helps patients needing anaplastology services.
