We recently had the pleasure of working with a gentleman from Southwestern Wisconsin. He was referred by a University of Wisconsin surgeon. The anaplastologists at Medical Art Prosthetics are always appreciative to be available to receive patients who have undergone ablative surgery procedures.

Surgery Hurts and We Help Heal

The surgery to resect skin cancers is understandabley devastaing for the patient, who often does not know what happens next! We try to greet each client being sensitive to their concerns. We take our time in a relaxed way and explain what we can do in terms of restoring the ear anatomy with ear prosthetics.

So What Happens Next to Get a Prosthetic Ear?

Its a relaxed but focused process to design, fabricate, and fit a lifelike silicone ear prosthesis. Julia Schomberg, MSOP was the clinical anaplastologist caring for our client in the Madison clinic facility. Julia guided his ear prosthesis creation from taking his ear impressions to sculpting the initial wax prototype on the plaster model (seen in the picture) to the final wax refinement and processing of the prosthetic ear in lifelike silicone.

Details Matter but Results Matter More

Its a wonderful and successful ear prosthesis in terms of the effective margin integration with natural skin folds and the perfectly matching skin tones in the prosthetic ear. We think it passes the test of being undetectable even in different lighting situations. It comes as no suprise because Julia Schomberg is an accomplished fine artist and specialist in creating human simulation teaching models.

Building Ear Prosthesis Partnerships for the Future

Our patient did not have to travel far to get his prosthetic ear restoration. He was already being treated for the skin cancer of his ear by the famous University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin. It was convenient to come to our specialized nationally accredited facility for Facial Prosthetics and Ear Prosthetics on the west side of Madison. But we try to be accessible to other patients and medical and surgical teams by having 8 locations across the country. See our locations by clicking here.

New Places to get Prosthetic Ears, Nose Prostheses, and Craniofacial Prosthetics

Our newest clinical anaplastologist Julia Schomberg, is a native of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and she is working to make our ear prosthetics and maxillofacial prosthetics services easily accessible to physicians and patients in Soutwestern Wisconsin, Iowa, and the Mayo Medical Community in Rochester, MN. Many doctors such as ear reconstructive surgeons, ENT surgeons, plastic surgeons, and Mohs micrographic surgeons do not even know where to send their patient when they need a prosthetic ear or other facial prosthesis. We spend extra time trying to reach them and teach them about our ear prosthetics specialty. Julia will be available to see patients who need a prosthetic ear in LaCrosse. Her graduate education in Prosthetics and Orthotics and her specialty experience working as a clinician for Limb Lab makes her a great addition to our practice. We hope she will develop LaCrosse as a Medical Art Prosthetics location for the future. See a Facebook introduction of Julia Schomberg here.
