With silicone hand restoration there is no magic involved, just highly focused work work we enjoy so our patient can relax!
We literally work hand-in-hand with our clients from assessment through careful capture of every possible detail to the final evaluation of the fit and final result of the prosthesis.
The process usually involves direct impressions to record the areas involved, fitting of test sockets to assure a perfect fit, preparing detailed models, formulating colors and finally delivery of the prosthesis with training and instructions. Our mold fabrication and silicone processing steps occur between your visits. See how we take finger impressions.
Our balance of prosthetics credentials, experience with silicone restoration and over 3 decades of documented successful outcomes are second to none in the United States. I invite you to learn more about Medical Art Prosthetics today.
The Prosthesis General Process

Here are more detailed steps in getting a finger or hand prosthesis:
We first record causes of amputation (dog bite, infection, circulation, etc.) and discuss goals and activities of daily living (ADLs). We make sure the affected finger is well healed and ready for prosthetic restoration.

On the same day we can take a simple silicone impression of the amputated and unaffected fingers. From the silicone impression we are able to make a precise model of the residual finger.

In the next session we address both the skin texture details and the fit of the wax prototype of the finger in place. We verify you are happy with the length, shape, and alignment of the prototype

The fitting session also includes our skin color matching procedure with our custom swatches that accurately captures in photos the array of pigmentation. From experience and visual acuity the medical the artist can translate color references and make minute adjustments during fabrication using these nuanced silicone swatches.

The wax prototype is invested to create a highly accurate mold locking in every detail. Our molds are made very durable with brass flasking so that duplicate prostheses will be available at a fraction of the cost for years to come.

The finished high resolution silicone prosthetic fingers are demolded and prepared for final delivery. Any color details needed are painstakingly added by the anaplastologist.

We check each final prosthesis for fit and make any final adjustments. We want each client to be happy so we will make corrections or adjustments if needed. We provide full aftercare instructions (link to adhesives/instruction). Each prosthesis should last years, and master molds are safely archived for replacements whenever needed.
